Coccinella septempunctata, llamada vulgarmente mariquita de siete puntos es la especie de mariquita más común en Europa. Sus élitros son de color rojo, con tres puntos negros en cada uno, y uno más sobre el lugar donde ambos se junta, lo que hace un total de siete puntos (de ahí su nombre vulgar, y también el científico, del latín septem, "siete", y punctata, "punteada".
C. septempunctata vive prácticamente en cualquier lugar en el que haya pulgones, de los que se alimenta. Tanto los ejemplares adultos como las larvas son voraces depredadores de pulgones.

Coccinella septempunctata, the seven-spot ladybird, is the most common ladybird in Europe. Its elytra are of a red colour, but punctuated with three black spots each, with one further spot being spread over the junction of the two, making a total of seven spots, from which the species derives both its common and scientific names (from the Latin septem = "seven" and punctata = "spots").
C. septempunctata has a broad ecological range, living almost anywhere where there are aphids for it to eat. Both the adults and the larvae are voracious predators of aphids.

Deutsh:
Siebenpunkte werden 5,2 bis 8 mm lang. Der Chitin-Panzer ist fast vollkommen schwarz gefärbt. Nur der Thorax, der einen weißen Fleck an jeder Seite hat, und die Flügeldecken, die eine rote Grundfarbe haben, sind anders gefärbt. Auf den Flügeldecken befinden sich zusätzlich insgesamt sieben schwarze Flecken. Der Körper ist oval geformt, eher rund als gestreckt, und in die Höhe gewölbt. Bei Gefahr stellen sich diese Tiere tot. Wenn die Gefahr als lebensbedrohlich eingestuft wird sondern sie eine gelbe Flüssigkeit ab. Diese hält vor allem Ameisen ab.
