Característico por los engrosados fémures y tibias curvas. Sólo hay diez especies europeas y en concreto una en la península ibérica. Es propio de climas fuertes, casi desérticos, y soporta altas temperaturas. Se alimenta de savia que obtiene con su afilado aparato bucal.
